Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), in Sweden

Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) Security Consultant Mr. Klas Nilsson at the security firm called Security Manager, successfully passed the PCI exam in San Diego, CA on September 24, 2006 and received the Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) designation. Mr. Nilsson became the first PCI in Sweden and the 11th person in the world and the first person outside U.S.A. with all three designations (CPP, PSP, PCI) from ASIS International.

The Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) designation was founded in 2002 by ASIS International. It is a certification for investigators investigating incidents, crimes and carry out background investigations. The content and eligibility for PCI is established by ASIS International along with its 37000 members worldwide. The reference literature is updated yearly and the content of the PCI is reviewed every five years to ensure it is up to date. The certification needs to be renewed every third year and is accredited by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) according to ISO 17024. The exam have 125 questions that needs to be answered in 2,5 hours, about 82% of the answers needs to be correct to successfully pass the exam. ASIS International certification program was the first in the world to receive the SAFETY Act designation from U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Eligibility to write the exam

  1. A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of investigations experience,
  3. with at least 2 years in case management.
  4. Abide to the PCI™ Code of Professional Responsibility
  5. Not have been convicted of any criminal offense.

Areas of knowledge tested on the exam

  • 29% Case Management
  • 50% Investigative Techniques and Procedures
  • 21% Case Presentation

SAFETY Act designation from U.S. Department of Homeland Security Re-certification requirements, every third year

  1. 45 credits Continuing Professional Education (CPE).
  2. Abide to the PCI™ Code of Professional Responsibility,
  3. Not have been convicted of any criminal offense.
